Castolin Xuper 680 S stick electrode

For difficult-to-weld steels

Castolin Xuper 680 S stick electrode

High-alloy CrNi steel electrode with special coating for almost universal use in repair and preventive maintenance. The weld metal has high resistance to pressure, impact and cavitation with good elongation and high strength. Not susceptible to cracking.

It can be filed but cannot be hardened and has excellent resistance to rust and corrosion. The arc is very easy to ignite and re-ignite. The rod electrode is excellent for welding in all positions on direct or alternating current. The welding bead is evenly finely feathered and the slag is easy to remove.

Technical data
DIN EN 14700: E Fe11

Applications
For joint and build-up welding of difficult-to-weld steels, e.g: Steels with increased sulphur content and carbon steels, tool, high-speed and hot-work steels, manganese hard steels, spring and quenched and tempered steels as well as ferritic and martensitic Cr steels.
Typical application examples are
Repairs to broken tools such as drills, chisels, pliers and wrenches, drawing, punching, cutting and pressing tools as well as hydraulic cylinders and piston rods, water turbines, steam valve seats, gear wheels, damaged or broken teeth on gear rims, driver cams, stops, firing pins, impact and drill bits.

Processing instructions
Remove cracked and otherwise damaged material. Clean welding areas. Re-dry at 350 °C / 1 h. During welding, adjust the heat input to the component, its material and dimensions. Limit the interpass temperature to 250 °C for large weld cross-sections. Weld austenitic manganese steels as cold as possible (below 250 °C) without preheating.
